2021 Board Member Candidates

Judd Syverson

I am Wapheton, ND native, where I grew up on the rink. I moved to Detroit Lakes and have been an active Laker supporting community member for the last 16 years, and have enjoyed watching the growth. Being a parent of 3 daughters, one of which is a former hockey player, I had the privilege to also coach in the program. DLYHA teaches our children so much more than hockey skills, I believe they continue to find teachable moments on how to be a leader, coachable, and how to show good sportsmanship. These are life lessons that are so important to our youth today and I would love to be a part of the WHOLE picture.

I am also a member of the Rhinos Old Time Hockey League Board and want to maintain a quality relationship between the DLYHA Board and ours. We donate funds raised each year to specific areas in need, whether it be sending DLYHA goalies to camps, helping with special costs that are above and beyond what someone can afford, donating to a specific cause, or anything else that is put in front of us to help make it easier for hockey to be enjoyed by our youth and lessen the burden of families when necessary, we are here to help our hockey community.

Maintaining a positive relationship between our communities is so important. Bridging the gaps is crucial when we are in need of further support. I would love to have your support to help bring my knowledge and vision for the ENTIRE association to the Board.

Jerry Morberg

I am a Perham resident and currently have two sons who have been playing in the DLYHA for six years, which has spurred my interest in a position with the board.

I currently own and operate Dynamic Cropping Systems in Perham and when not working spend most of my free time on the lake or with our boys at their activities. From the time I graduated high school I have spent many years coaching and helping out in numerous ways with youth athletics. I believe all kids starting at a young age should be given equal opportunities to grow to their full potential as young athletes and young adults. I believe that in business or sports a clear plan and process should be put forth for all to see, be transparent in all areas and make sure everyone from top leadership down feels like they are all an important part of the organization.

Since we have been participating in DLYHA I have seen it continue to grow and the board has made a number of positive changes that have the organization moving in a great direction for future growth and success of the program.  I would like to do my part to help continue to move the program forward towards great success in the future.

Josh Muzik

Myself, along with my wife Anna and 3 kids, Hoyt, Kora and Knox love living in Detroit Lakes and being an active part of this community.  I graduated from DLHS in 2002 and after college, moved back and started a construction company with my Dad.  After 10+ years in the building trade, I made a career change and have worked as an insurance agent for Modern Insurance and Noah Insurance since 2016.

I have been a member of the Detroit Lakes Laker Booster board since 2017 and was the President of the Booster Board in 2019-20.

So here I go, throwing my name in the running for the hockey board…I am committed to Detroit Lakes hockey community, supporting its growth and working to make the Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association stronger and thriving for our kids and our community.

Jenna Schornack

My name is Jenna Schornack.  I have three daughters, two of which played U10 level hockey this past year and one waiting to join.  My husband, Todd, and I have been members of the Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association for five years now.  I have always enjoyed sports and being part of my daughters’ activities.

I have been a dental hygienist in the area for 13 years.  I have also coached JO volleyball. I am energetic, tenacious, and ready for a challenge.

My attributes are compassion, honesty, and strong communication skills.  I want to be part of maintaining a positive culture, recruiting/retaining players, and advocating for our youth.  Hockey is a big part of our lives and I want to be able to give back by being on the DLYHA board of directors.

I look forward to working with the other members of the board to uphold the mission of the DLHYA.

Kari Stattelman

(Current DLYHA Board Member & DLYHA Treasurer)

I would like to put my name back on the ballot for this one of this year's open seats.  Over the past 3 years serving on the board I feel that I have been able to contribute to the board in many ways and have learned valuable information about our association's strengths and the areas of needed growth. As the treasurer and board member I have been able to apply for grants and obtain additional funding for equipment and programming. It is important to me that we continue to work on the gains we have made over the past years to improve the culture of DLYHA.  We have made great strides in some areas, and are continuing to work on other areas of needed improvement identified by the association through parent and player survey's and conversations.  Every kid in our association deserves the best!!!

In addition I hope to continue to be a voice for the girls in our program and help to advocate for overall program growth.

DLYHA is a great place for the youth of our community (to quote Brendan) "Dream big. Shoot for the moon. Work Hard. Grow."

Shiloh Wahl

Over the years, DLYHA has changed a lot, and I am happy to say I was a part of these positive changes.  I am running for another term to continue the great things we've accomplished and continue to grow the youth program.  I also want to continue to strengthen excellent partnerships we have developed with the High School boys and girls coaches
