2024 Board Member Candidates

Toddd Bohls

My name is Todd Bohls and I am seeking election on the Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association board of directors.

Hockey has been a part of my life for roughly 30 years. I have been a player, coach and mentor. I started playing hockey when I was 5 years old and played through high school until injuries made me quit the game I loved. I then turned to coaching. I have coached all levels of youth hockey including girls and was the head JV coach and assistant high school coach for 5yrs in Watertown SD. I stepped away from coaching when our kids were born and got back into it when my son started playing. I am also on the Board for Perham hockey where we have been trying to get a learn to skate program and ice rink built in Perham. A couple of things that I have learned over the years is that all kids are coachable, and hockey is for everyone who has a desire to play this sport.

If I were appointed to the DLYHA board, my goals would be to help develop and build this organization into what I believe it can be.

Charity Reese

Why I am interested in a position with the Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Board:
My interest in holding a position on the Board for the Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association Board is to listen and share ideas from coaches, players and members of the association to further develop the youth hockey program that encourages teaching players not only the skills needed on the ice, but also respect, teamwork, work ethic and leadership skills in the community. My goal as a board member is to be a role model and leader in the association to allow a healthy environment for players and coaches to develop, grow and continue their love of the game.

Prior Hockey Experience:
My experience on the ice includes playing for Moorhead Youth Hockey girls’ team as well as Moorhead Spuds Girls High School Hockey team. I played on the ODR’s in college as well as boot hockey intramural league at St. Cloud State University. My current experience includes shooting pucks with my now mite level player in the garage and watching him grow a love for the game.

Goals for the future:
I personally strive to be a role model in the community and my day job includes promoting positive change behavior engagement in difficult conversation and split-second decision making. If elected to the board, I will continue to advocate for the growth and development of youth hockey, youth hockey players and coaches to obtain the necessary skills needed to engage more youth in the program. I look forward to this program growing in kids interested in playing hockey as well as growing well-rounded hockey players and families.

Brooke Bohls

My name is Brooke Bohls, and I am seeking re-election on the Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association board of directors.  I joined the board in August 2022 to complete a resigned board position term. I am currently the board treasurer, as well as tournament coordinator, and hope to continue in those capacities.

I and my husband, Todd, live on Long Lake (Vergas) with our children, Kaydence and Kyler. We joined the association back in 2020, when my son was a mite. We both have been involved over the years volunteering our time to my son’s teams, I as team manager for three years and my husband as a coach. I am always eager to help wherever and whenever I can to the association as well.

I have a special place in my heart for the association and all the kids it serves. I love watching all the levels grow each year, in and outside of hockey. I would love to continue to assist the program grow and succeed.
