Girls Learn to Play
A Fun, Supportive Introduction to Hockey!
The Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association is excited to welcome new players to Girls Learn to Play Hockey!
This program is designed specifically for girls who are ready to take the next step after developing basic skating skills. In a fun and encouraging environment, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of hockey while building confidence, friendships, and a love for the game.
Learn to Skate is recommended before participating in Learn to Play.
Whether your child loves to skate, dance, play soccer, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, or simply enjoys being active, hockey is a sport where every girl can succeed.
Hockey is for:
- Girls who love to compete
- Girls who enjoy being part of a team
- Girls who like to stay active
- Beginners with little or no hockey experience
- Athletes from any sport looking to try something new
No previous hockey experience is necessary—just a positive attitude and a willingness to have fun!

Girls Learn to Play 2026
Girls Learn to Play is for children ages 4-9 to introduce the basics of hockey.
