Termites

Termites is generally for players ages 5–7. Children who are not yet 5 when the season begins are encouraged to start in Rookies.

Termites and Mites work together to give players an introduction to hockey that fits their age and experience. An experienced Termite may be ready for Mites, while a new skater of Mite age may benefit from starting in Termites. Placement can change as players develop throughout the season.

Equipment is available free of charge.

The Termite season begins in mid-October. Players practice on Wednesdays, Saturday mornings, and some Sunday afternoons. Later in the season, Saturdays become in-house scrimmage days.

Coaches and the Hockey Director group players with others of similar ability so everyone can have fun, stay engaged, and develop their skills. Groups may change throughout the season as players grow.

Termites is an in-house program, with one or two opportunities each season to join optional scrimmages or jamborees in nearby communities.

Our Termite program focuses on the FUNdamentals stage of USA Hockey’s American Development Model and follows Minnesota Hockey’s Minnesota Development Model. DLYHA also uses the USA Hockey Skills Progression guidelines to support player development.
