The Lilac Loons bring together girls of Termite and Mite age to learn, play, and grow their love of hockey. The program helps build a strong future for girls hockey in Detroit Lakes.
Age Eligibility
Lilac Loons is generally for girls ages 4–9. Players should turn 4 before the season begins in October.
Equipment
Equipment is available free of charge.
Season Format
The Lilac Loons season begins in mid-October. Players practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday mornings. Later in the season, Saturdays become in-house scrimmage days.
Coaches and the Hockey Director group players with others of similar ability so everyone can have fun, stay engaged, and develop their skills. Groups may change as players grow throughout the season.
The Loons are primarily an in-house program. There may be one or two opportunities each season for optional scrimmages or jamborees in nearby communities, especially for older players.
The program focuses on the Active Start and FUNdamentals stages of USA Hockey’s American Development Model and follows Minnesota Hockey’s Minnesota Development Model. DLYHA also uses the USA Hockey Skills Progression guidelines to support player development.
