Age Eligibility
Squirt / 10U is generally for players ages 9–11.
Equipment
Equipment is available free of charge.
Season Format
The season begins in mid-October. Through December, players practice on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and most Fridays. Ice time combines skill stations, small-area games, and team activities. Players also have in-house games on Sunday evenings.
There are no formal tryouts. Instead, the Squirt coordinator, coaches, and Hockey Director evaluate players throughout the early season and select teams by mid-December. The planned travel teams are Squirt A, Squirt B2, Squirt C, and 10U B.
Travel games begin in January. DLYHA aims for each team to play 20–25 games, including a home tournament, usually one travel tournament, and a district tournament.
The program focuses on the Learn to Train stage of USA Hockey’s American Development Model and follows Minnesota Hockey’s Minnesota Development Model. DLYHA also uses the USA Hockey Skills Progression guidelines to support player development.
