Free Hockey The DL Way
Free Hockey – The DL Way
In Minnesota, we know the secret to developing great hockey players — time on the ice. Access to ice is the foundation of our state’s reputation as the State of Hockey, and at Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey, we’re proud to lead the charge in keeping the game affordable, fun, and accessible for everyone.
Whether your player just wants to have fun with friends or dreams of taking their game to the next level, free play and open ice are where it all begins. That’s where creativity, confidence, and love for the game are built — and we make sure there’s plenty of it.
More Ice. More Opportunity. Zero Extra Cost.
Since 2022, we’ve added 10 extra weeks of ice — without raising fees — including open hockey sessions Monday through Thursday in August, September, and October leading up to the season. Players can drop in, play pick-up games, try new moves, and just be kids on the ice.
We Keep Hockey Affordable:
Free Learn to Skate and Try Hockey for Free events to help new families get started — no cost, no commitment.
First-year players skate free — no DLYHA registration fees.
Free equipment provided through U10/Squirt levels.
Free skills clinics featuring elite skating coaches, top development programs, and training from our Hockey Director and staff.
Free access to professional strength & conditioning coaching in a state-of-the-art facility — developing well-rounded athletes both on and off the ice.
Access. Development. Community.
That’s the DL Youth Hockey Way — more ice, more opportunity, and a stronger hockey community for every player who laces up in Detroit Lakes.
